All of Us Are Dead

Another original horror series is on the way from Netflix, with the Korean zombie series All of Us Are Dead originally announced last year and now finally on the way. We don’t yet have a premiere date for the series but it was included in Netflix’s January 2022 lineup. The season will consist of 8 episodes.

I have been a fan of Asian films since a teen. Back then, getting anything from Asia be it anime, horror, or action(except martial arts) was like the proverbial walking uphill in the snow both ways to school without shoes. It was few and far between. So most movies were bootlegs VHS that a friend coveted. And those were usually bad quality and made worse with every re-watching. Now we have the privilege of getting quality movies without all the hassle.

On April 12, 2020, Netflix announced through a press release that JTBC Studios and Film Monster would produce a series called All of Us Are Dead based on the popular webtoon Now at Our School. Yoon Chan-young was confirmed to star in the series as one of the students. Park Ji-hoo joined the main cast on April 22. On July 1, they were officially joined by Jo Yi-hyun, Park Solomon, and Yoo In-soo. Production was temporarily suspended in August 2020 due to the re-spreading of COVID-19 in South Korea.

The synopsis for All of Us Are Dead:

“Life at Hyosan High School is nothing special… until the students realize they’re in ground zero of a deadly virus that turns its victims into flesh-eating monsters. As the virus tears through their schoolmates in a matter of hours, they realize they have nowhere to run. Trapped in their high school with zombified versions of their friends and teachers, they must find a way to fight -- and escape with their lives.”

The Korean series was created by Lee JQ, Chun Sung-il, and Kim Nam-su. And it’s based on Joo Dong-Geun’s popular webtoon Now at Our School, which debuted in 2009.
