Crimes of the Future Takes Cronenberg Back to Body Horror

When we talk about body horror, Cronenberg is a name that should be the first out of your mouth. So famous for this genre, his name has evolved into a verb; Cronenberged. Now, David Cronenberg’s latest film, Crimes of the Future has a teaser that takes us back to the depths of body horror. 


Crimes of the Future is very promising with a cast that includes, Lea Seydoux, Viggo Mortensen,  Scott Speedman, and Kristen Stewart. The synopsis goes like this:


As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations metamorphosis, which alters its biological makeup. While some embrace the limitless potential of trans-humanism, others attempt to police it. Either way, Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, is spreading fast. With his partner, Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), a celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed. Their mission – to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.
