Sundance Hit Watcher

By RodneyHatfieldJr for Movies

One of the best-reviewed horror movies blowing up the internet this week premiered at last week’s Sundance 2022. Watcher, which comes from director Chloe Okuno. If you don’t know who Okuno is, you may have watched her segment Storm Drain from our V/H/S/94. Storm Drain introduced the world to a new monster in the form of the sewer-dwelling Raatma. We need more Raatma.

Watcher stars Maika Monroe (The Guest, It Follows) as a young woman who moves into a new apartment with her fiancé and is tormented by the feeling that she is being stalked by an unseen watcher in an adjacent building.

IFC Midnight and Shudder will release it later this year. People who have seen it have called it an atmospheric anxiety-inducing and paranoid thriller. Joining Maika Monroe is Karl Glusman, Burn Gorman, and Ciubuciu Bogdan Alexandru. Zack Ford wrote the script, and producers include Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Derek Dauchy, John Finemore, Aaron Kaplan, Mason Novick.
