Texas Chainsaw Massacre Sequel

By RodneyHatfieldJr for Movies

We just had a ton of news about the newest Chainsaw Massacre film dropped on us. Since the movie was announced last year, the only real news we have had was the movie poster and that it was being produced by Fede Alvarez. Well that all changed this week.

The first tidbit we have is that it is confirmed that his film is going to be a direct sequel to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That means every sequel is now null and void. (Screw you TCM 4, you are a dumpster fire of a fever dream. I am glad you don’t exist in the canon now.) However, that also means Chop Top is also gone. That makes me sad. Chop Top is a classic character. As for the rest, it doesn't really bother me. The sequels are all over the place. Outside of part 2, the rest are forgettable. But 2 is a classic.

Since this film will be a direct sequel, the movie will be dealing with old man Leatherface. This brings up two questions. What time period will it take place? And how old is Leatherface going to be? Canon says he was born in 1939, which would put him at a spry old age of 82 or 83 if the film is current. If I had to guess, I think they will have him finding a prodigy. Because I have no idea how they can pull off such an advanced aged killer.

Another gem we learned this week is they will be going old school with the practical effects. Other than keeping things practical where possible, they will be using similar camera lenses. That of course has us pretty excited about the look of the film. Sounds like he is going to go after a similar look to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. Plus the original writer, Kim Henkel is also on board. So things are looking very positive as far as keeping the original look and feel intact.

It was also announced Dan Yeager will play Leatherface. While Olwen Fouéré will be Sally Hardesty. Sadly both original actors are both gone now. True I don’t know Dan Yeager but Olwen was superb in Mandy.
